A missile is fired at Marineville. Luckily the buildings are retracted in time, and the interceptor AA rockets shoot it down in time. Stingray is dispatched to the area that the missile came from. They discover an island with a volcano.
The villains use a paralysing ray to catch the Stingray crew. Under torture, Troy Tempest uses Trolley Problem logic and is willing to sacrifice himself and his crew in order to safeguard the citizens of Marineville. Of course, he actually has a plan of escape.
If this all sounds a bit familiar, that is because the story is from Gerry's earlier show Fireball XL-5 and the rocket-launching volcano island is from his later show Thunderbirds . In fact, it may have inspired a certain volcano in You Only Live Twice . Remember, this show features the model-making of Derek Meddings and the voice talents of Lois Maxwell so it already has strong links to the James Bond series.

The Man from the Navy

The World Aquanaut Security Patrol HQ in Marineville hosts an officer from the World Navy. Nobody explains what the difference is between these two units. The new officer, a Frenchman, is very popular with the ladies.
The mission is a training session with a new missile. The amphibian spy X20 observes the Navy submarine from his clifftop house, and informs Titan the Evil Overlord. Their plan is to have a couple of goons hijack the Navy submarine while it is fully submerged, and use it to destroy Stingray.
As explained in Stingray (1964) [Season 1, Episode 2] Emergency Marineville , WASP personnel are willing to die in the line of duty. Will the Navy officer sacrifice himself for the greater good? If he tries another choice, playing along while trying to warn Tempest and Phones, does this make him a coward or a villain?

The amphibian spy X20 practises his piano skills in his clifftop mansion. Rather than actually learn to play, he just mimes to a pre-recorded tape.
Titan the Evil Overlord orders X20 to neutralise Stingray .by having the regular crew replaced with inexperienced rookies To this send, the spy infiltrates WASP HQ as the Kleen-U-Quick company's window-cleaner. Of course, this is done for comedic affect.
Stingray is assigned to escort a tugboat that is pulling millions of gallons of crude oil. It is incredibly easy for X20 to sabotage this.
With Phones on suspension, he needs a psychiatrist, X20 poses as a shrink, and invites Phones to the mansion. Phones finds himself in the spy's lair, but has absolutely no idea what the electronic machines do!

A Christmas to Remember

Troy Tempest narrates a story about his most recent adventure to a young boy, Barry Byrne. The boy wrangles his way into getting a guided tour of the WASP HQ.
The main mission concerns a mysterious submarine that attacked Marineville. Troy captures the enemy sub, but it has no crew. It is taken back to HQ and kept in the impound area.
Troy's fictionalised story includes some heroic derring-do such as him being fired out of stingray's missile launcher. Will he confess this exaggeration to his biggest fan, or will he managed to do it for real?
