Det. Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn - Captain America ) investigates the abduction and murder of a small boy. Claude Bolton (Paddy Considine - Dead Man's Shoes ) and some other witnesses identify Terry Maitland (Jason Bateman - ) as the prime suspect.
This has the tone and subject of a typical morose Scandinavian Noir copaganda TV show. However, things come alive with the story's twist. The suspect has an alibi. How can he have been in two places at the same time? Yes, this boring detective story has a supernatural aspect.

Det. Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn - Captain America ) perp-walks Terry Maitland (Jason Bateman - ) for the second time. Despite believing Maitland might actually be innocent, Ralph walks him into the main entrance of the courthouse rather than sneaking him in via the secure rear entrance. The massive crowd of violent townspeople are not literally waving pitchforks and flaming torches, but they might as well be.
Glory Maitland ( Julianne Nicholson ) blames Ralph for what has happened. She ignores her younger daughter, who claims to have seen the boogeyman.

If Gibney's name is familiar, that is because she is the same character as in Mr Mercedes . However, since this is a slightly different version of the Stephen King universe she is now played by a different actress.
