This starts with Erik Heller (Joel Kinnaman -
The Suicide Squad
) breaking into a secret facility in Romania.
He steals a baby, but has to fight his way out.
He and his wife are pursued by Marissa Wiegler (
Mireille Enos
).
Sixteen years later, Erik has raised the baby to become Hanna (
Esme Creed-Miles
). In the original, they were far off the grid in Scandinavia.
In this version, they are in a forest in Poland.
Yes, they escaped one NATO country and hid out in its neighbour.
Hanna goes exploring and meets a Polish boy.
It is rather a suspenseful storyline,
as this kind of scene often devolves due to male horniness.
Worse, it is made clear from the get-go that she is a trained killer.
In the original movie,
Hanna made a voluntary decision to attract Marissa's attention.
Here it is inadvertent,
a change that strips the protagonist of her agency.
She manages to course-correct a bit, of course,
by surrendering to Marissa's SWAT team.

) is held in an underground CIA prison in Morocco,
where she is subject to an interrogation
remotely managed by Marissa Wiegler (
Mireille Enos
). As per the movie,
Hanna fights her way out and leaves a trail of bodies.
Back in Europe, Erik Heller (Joel Kinnaman -
The Suicide Squad
) swims from Poland to Germany.
Unfortunately he also leaves a trail of bodies.
This makes it easy for Marissa to track him,
and they are not even her men - they are regular police.
She calls in her top henchman,
the gay hit-man, who has a hunter's instincts.
Hanna befriends another teenage girl,
an English girl on holiday with her mixed-race family.
The English girl has a bit of a crush on Hanna,
and gives her a taste of life as a regular teen girl.
Of course, to someone raised in a cave
the sudden switch to nightclubbing is sensory overload.
The first episode had about the first five minutes of the movie's plot.
In contrast, this episode has about forty minutes of movie plot.
It includes a couple of major fight scenes,
which are let down by some strange editing choices.
Since the episode has a female director,
this may be the fault of the Female Gaze ...
instead of focusing on the action,
the camera repeatedly cuts to the reactions of female onlookers.

) is reunited with Erik Heller (Joel Kinnaman -
The Suicide Squad
) in Berlin.
He has a team of ex-military friends,
and they set an ambush for Marissa Wiegler (
Mireille Enos
).
Of course, Marissa Wiegler knows how he operates.
With the help of CIA Analyst McArthur (
Varada Sethu
), she can work out what he will do next.
And since he is like a chess master who plans multiple steps ahead,
he knows that she knows ...
The flashbacks are of Erik's time working for Marissa,
when he recruited pregnant women for her secret operation.
Presumably this has something to do with Hanna's abnormal DNA,
something mentioned in the file that she stole from the CIA.
Erik destroys the evidence to keep Hanna and the audience in the dark.
However, if Hanna is genetically modified
it explains why a teen girl has the same strength as a grown man.

removing obstacles to his end-game.

She sneaks out, and discovers what Erik is hiding.
Of course, this leads her to confront him.
Marissa's CIA minion discovers that his entire team,
including CIA Analyst McArthur (
Varada Sethu
), has been replaced.
The new man in charge is Marissa's boss from Washington DC.

and had her sidelined.
However, she has more luck tracking Hanna on social media.

) successfully got herself people-trafficked to England,
and is now hiding out in the English girl's camper van.
They now do normal teen-girl stuff,
although social media is everywhere and puts Hanna at risk.

) to attack the new Ultrax facility.
Luckily it has the same layout as the old one,
and the trainees are the same age as Hanna.
The Doctor (Noah Taylor -
Powers
) does what he can for the trainees.
They are not clones like in
Dark Angel (1999)
, but they are drugged and brainwashed into being child soldiers.
Only one of them has had a Who Monitors The Birds? moment,
like in
Space: Above And Beyond (1996)
.
The child soldiers have superhuman senses.
Hanna can sense a patrol dog in the woods,
but somehow she cannot smell the blood
from Erik's gut-wound that has been bleeding for days.
He probably has peritonitis.
Some of these episodes has been light on action.
This has two shoot-outs,
compensating for the other episodes.

They are hunted by remote-control drones.
Rather than stay put, they go on a crime spree.

) meets an old friend, John Carmichael (Dermot Mulroney -

). He is her new boss at the CIA.
The teenage super-soldiers are undergoing socialisation training.
Just like Hanna in Season One,
they are learning how to be a normal teenage girl.
An ex-military Intel operator has been hired to help.
As always, Hanna is a better shot with a pistol
than a unit of soldiers are with assault rifles.

The police have a patsy in custody,
but despite lots of armed guards at the building
Hanna has no trouble just walking in there under false pretences.
John Carmichael (Dermot Mulroney -

) thinks Hanna is dead.
However, with two fatalities at the drug company's HQ
it is inevitable he will get supsicious.
He has his new hench-woman track Hanna,
with the intent of killing her.

Hanna is selected as the assassin,
because she is the only one with field experience.
The lesbian girl is sent to help seduce the target,
even though she has no actual lesbian experience yet.
Hanna never considers that this might be a test.
A second team is sent to Barcelona.
They are heteronormative,
but have no actual experience with the opposite gender.
As the previous episode pointed out,
The Meadows is an all-female unit.
Marissa Wiegler (

) is imprisoned in North Africa.
The interrogators suspect she is linked to Tacitus.
However, she still has at least one ally in the Agency.
